Mr. Lawrence began his legal career in 1972 with the Tennessee Supreme Court as law clerk to Justices George McCanless and Joseph Henry. In 1974, he was appointed as the Supreme Court’s first full-time Staff Attorney. He later joined the NLT Corporation as Assistant General Counsel, and joined the Firm in 1982. He is a member of various bar associations and has been named to Best Lawyers in America since 2009 and to Mid-South Super Lawyers since 2012.
In 2014, he was named Nashville “Lawyer of the Year” for 2014-15 in the category of Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants. The selection was made by The Best Lawyers in America and is based upon peer review.
Mr. Lawrence has also again been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 21st Edition of The Best Lawyers in America in his practice areas including Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants and Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants.Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating: AV
Personal
Mr. Lawrence, a native of Mobile, Alabama, and wife Carolyn were reporters for United Press International in Atlanta. Carolyn was a long-time TV journalist for WSB-TV in Atlanta and WSMV-TV in Nashville. She also served as marketing manager for Cheekwood Botanical Garden in Nashville. They have two sons: Tom III, CPA, CFA, who lives in Charlotte, N.C., with his wife Gina and two children, and Todd, who lives in Nashville after working in Africa in international health. Mr. Lawrence has served on a number of non-profit boards and is currently webmaster for the Battle of Nashville Preservation Society website. His hobbies include writing, golf, reading, photography, fishing, and history.
